Mystery Science Theater 3000 is one of the funniest TV shows ever. Mike
Nelson, Crow, and Tom Servo are forced to watch some of the cheesiest
sci-fi/fantasy movies ever produced. Watching just a few of these
would be enough to make any sane person go mad, so the crew of SOL
(Satellite of Love - name of the ship on which Mike, Crow, and Tom
reside) look at these movies from cynical, sarcastic, and just plain
funny points of view! MST3K embodies a humor that is intelligent. A lot of work goes into making witty retorts for the characters to interject while they watch the movie. Lots of the jokes made during the show point towards important historical events or people, which are sometimes not grasped by all the viewers. And that's one of the things that makes this show so funny! It's not about cheap humor that anyone could think of; it takes time and knowledge to write this stuff! In real life, Mike Nelson, musician (sometimes he makes musical references in the show, that's why), the voices of Crow and Tom, two fairly 'smart' but funny guys, and a handful of other cast members work together to produce the quality comedy for this show. But all good things must draw to a close. In 1999, MST3K and The Sci-Fi Channel announced that it would be their last season of the show. The show first began on a small UHF station in 1989 and now has finished in its 10th season. Fortunately, The Sci-Fi Channel is continuing the MST3K legacy by showing reruns. |
