Problems In Indonesia

There is a "situation" that has been taking place in Indonesia for quite a while now - something that few Americans are aware of. For political reasons candidates for Indonesian government positions and current members of the government itself have sparked opposition against the Chinese. The majority of conflicts occur during election time, when the candidates use it as a means of gaining higher support from the native Indo people. In addition, it discourages Chinese from voting (or even stepping outside for fear of their life). So what exactly is taking place that should concern us? Allow me to show and tell you about it...

Well, throughout the past several years many Chinese students have been attacked by Indo police during demonstrations. The majority of the Chinese people living in Indonesia grew up there and speak Bahasa Indonesia fluently. More than 30 Chinese women and girls have been raped by Indo citizens and police at demonstrations in the last few years alone. During riots, staged and fueled by Indo politicians, tons of Chinese have been looted, beaten, raped, and killed.

There is absolutely no place for the Chinese to turn for help. Indo people laugh at them and say such things as, "you deserve this for being Chinese." Even the police, who demand money for doing *anything* for them, cannot be trusted. In Indonesian cities Chinese women are harassed and bothered by Indo men if they walk on the streets.

The major cause for this racism and hate seems to be a result of China's control over Indonesia's trade. Uneducated and ignorant Indo people follow anything the government tells them, something true in *every* nation. While they have a legitimate grief against the Chinese government, they do not have any reason to punish and kill the Chinese Indonesians for this. Some people do not comprehend this, and regardless of what any written document of politician may say, the government IS NOT the people. The government of nearly all countries, including the United States, has grown to be a huge giant rarely influenced by the common citizen. Yes, China's government has done many wrong things (not only their trade control of Indo), but the hatred towards innocent Chinese people must stop! As long as humans are in control of the government, any and all governments will fail. The Indonesian politicians responsible for starting riots should be burned to death; and the Indo citizens involved should have the same done to them as they have done to the Chinese.
